A Year of Living with the Dead

Working with the dead is, theoretically, so simple: we summon them and ask for their help. Yet doing so contradicts all of the indoctrinations and expectations of civilized modernity. What does it really main to live within an economy of prayer where we entrust all of our desires, our necessities, our yearnings, our fears, and our problems to beings the over-culture tells us either do not exist or exist only to hurt and harm and haunt us? To make such a practice daily, to allow it to transform who we are in the world, takes an entirely different ecology of faith and fellowship.

This intensive exploration will help each of us develop, maintain, and embrace an ongoing intimacy with the ancestral realm.

Each of us will bring the stuff of our lives to our weekly explorations. We will review the foundations of this work from summoning spells to altars to the dead to miracle teams to rituals of collaboration. We will create our own oracle decks and ancestral dolls. We will go on pilgrimages through time and space finding our lost soul connections. We will explore how our relationships with the dead expand our resources at powerful moments of transition—including birth ceremonies, weddings, and being with the dying. Ultimately, we hope to each tap into the work our souls most long to do with the souls of all that we have known and loved.

Much of what happens throughout the year will be orchestrated by the dead themselves and as we weave ourselves into the rhythms of the season we will allow such improvisations to guide our time together. I am facilitating this journey but the dead are already preparing it for us.

We will begin with a ceremony on Halloween itself and conclude with a ritual on the Day of the Dead the following year.

This course is designed for intensive participation and while every session is recorded and sent to all participants, it is not meant for simply viewing. Please do not sign up unless you can imagine engaging with us at least most of the time.

This course is suitable for anyone who has studied with me before.
